CHARITY volunteers will be holding a collection in Derby to help families who are battling poverty in war-torn Syria. Members of Hand in Hand for Syria will be at St Peter’s Church, in Derby, on Monday where people can drop off donations of new items of clothing and toiletries from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Organiser Jan Lee said Syrian aid workers via the Turkish border would take the goods in time for winter. She said: “Groundsheets and new thick bedding are also requested, as are tinned and dried foods such as tins of chick peas and sacks of rice and lentils. “We are asking for donations of warm clothing, including thermals and underwear, winter boots, thick blankets, hand knitted and crocheted in brand new condition. “Also needed desperately are new-born baby items, premature baby items, nappies of all sizes, baby wipes, toiletries, adult incontinence pads and women’s hygiene and sanitary products.”
