European Commission allocates 17.5 million euros for Syrian refugees in Turkeyimage

The Regional Trust Fund of the European Union launched, on Thursday, the first supportive project for Syrian refugees, thin which 17.5 million euros were allocated for the benefit of 240 thousand Syrian refugees in Turkey, most of them children, who will enjoy access to education and food security through monthly vouchers.

High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, “Federica Mgrena”, in a press statement that “our prompt attention to the Syrian people, but also for those who bear the burden of helping them, and no coincidence, that the first installment of the Fund’s response would be directed to schools and education.”

For his part, Commissioner of the European Neighborhood Policy, “Johannes Hahn” added, “The Trust Fund of the European Union is a new and innovative way to pool our resources together with the Member States to address this unprecedented crisis in the southern neighboring countries.”

The European Union established earlier, the first regional trust fund of the European Union as a tool for financing a new strategy, to mobilize more aid in response to the Syrian crisis.

The initial funding of the EU provided a budget in the amount of 20 million euros and 3 million euros from Italy as the first founding donors of the Fund.

Trust Fund of the European Union will focus on supporting the refugees and their host groups in the neighboring countries of Syria.
