The United Nations and various countries announced Monday that a humanitarian conference on Syria will be held on February 4, 2016, seeking to raise funds to aid victims of the conflict in this country.

According to a joint statement by the United Nations, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany and Kuwait, the event responds to the concerns for the future of millions of people hit by the crisis that sparked off in 2011 and is characterized by the actions of extremists and mercenaries supported from abroad, in line with the change of management that the West and its Arab allies seek to settle in Damascus.

The document released here refers to the urgency of raising funds to aid 13,500,000 Syrians who are in a vulnerable situation or internally displaced and more than four million refugees in neighboring countries.

Organizers of the conference pointed out that the call made by the UN in 2015 to support victims of the conflict is far from completion, because only $3.4 billion USD have been raised out of the $8.4 billion USD requested.

The humanitarian conference to be held in London would be the fourth on the issue, the previous three ones were held in Kuwait.
