Refugee employment in Europe: the UK in the Spotlight

Refugee employment in Europe: the UK in the Spotlightimage

04 Sep 2019

The unemployment rate among the 126,000 refugees in the UK, all of whom have the right to work, is 3 times higher than those born in the UK. Several UN agencies, INGOs and the charity Business in the Community (BITC) warn that opportunities for refugees in the UK to contribute to growth and integration are being lost. To turn this dangerous trend around, the BITC and British government have drawn-up guidelines on how to help businesses recruit refugees. The Mosaic Initiative team believes in refugees and applauds these efforts while calling for more action. Studies have shown that employment opportunities are one of the key elements contributing to positive integration. We call for the support the strength that refugees have in their journey to meet their own needs an rebuild their future.
