One million of Syria’s two million refugees are children.

According to the UNHCR, there are 793,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon. The Lebanese government puts the number at 1,200,000, of which 77% are women and children. 85% of the children are out of school.

Many refugee children are taught the work of manual labourers to fend for themselves and their destitute families.

Mosaic Initiative for Syria has responded to the call by Lebanese NGO Kayany to raise funds for Syrian refugee children in Lebanon. Thanks to the kind support of political cartoonist Ali Ferzat, and of artists Hamid Sulaiman and Tarek Tuma, we are partners of Syri-Arts Beirut – an exhibition of international art that will be auctioned to secure much needed food, clothing, medication and schooling for Syrian children in Lebanon, through reliable NGOs working on the ground. Please visit http://syri-arts.com/ to learn more about the participating artists and organisations.

Syri-Arts Beirut is curated by Dr. Kathy Battista, Director of Contemporary Art, Sotheby’s Institute of Art New York. It was organized in collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, UNICEF, Save the Children International, Action Against Hunger, SyriArt Paris, Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA), and the BEC.
